5 things I’m looking forward to this Spring

We may have lost an hour of sleep last night but I for one am really excited that the clocks have changed – it means Summer will not be too far away!

Following the battering we’ve had from the Beast from the East I for one am ready for longer, lighter days and hopefully warmer weather!

So spring officially began with the Vernal Equinox on Tuesday, March 20 in the Northern Hemisphere, and continued all the way until Thursday, June 21 – the Summer Solstice.

Here’s another fun fact for you:

The period when the clocks are 1 hour ahead is called British Summer Time (BST). There’s more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings (sometimes called Daylight Saving Time).

I don’t know about you but I always feel more positive and full of energy when the lighter, longer days kick in – I feel like I have a spring in my step (pardon the pun)!

I have so much to look forward to this Spring but thought I’d share with you my 5 favourite things…

5 things I am looking forward to this Spring

Longer days

One of the biggest reasons to look forward to spring is the longer days. Those long cold days of what seemed like perpetual darkness took a real toll on me – I just wanted to hibernate and felt like I lacked all motivation and energy.

I love the sunlight and when the spring approaches, the sunlight starts sticking around longer. There’s nothing better than days filled with brilliant sunshine!

We have a lovely back garden that needs some TLC so the hubby and I will no doubt be getting our gardening gloves on soon. We do have a lovely patio we can sit out in and enjoy those longer evenings – I am so looking forward to getting out the garden furniture!

Warmer weather

Having felt highs of 22 degrees during my mini South African Adventure I really am looking forward to some warmer weather back here at home. If there’s one thing I need as much as I need sunshine, it’s some warmer weather!

Losing the layers

I love feeling that touch of spring in the air which hopefully means shedding the layers of winter clothes in favour of lighter and less layers (hopefully)! There is only so much I can take getting all bundled up to go outside – at times it felt like a bit of a military operation!

Jumpers, vests, boots, jackets, scarves, hats, gloves – the works. I am looking forward to lighter layers and hopefully some of those fantastic floral and pastel prints to warm up my wardrobe.

Letting the good air in and the bad air out

I’m sure I am not alone in this but after what feels like an age of battening down the hatches to keep warm I start to feel like my house and car are filled with old stagnant air. Although I do try to air our house out during the colder months, as this is one of the best ways to reduce condensation, I can’t leave the windows open all afternoon or we would freeze!

I love to open up the windows in the spring and let that fresh air come on in and flow all through the house. Everything smells so crisp and just feels so much better.

Getting back outside and exploring

I’m really looking forward to exploring more of my native North East with the hubby but actually just getting out and about where we live! As I’m sure you already know we moved house a week before Christmas and we’ve had a couple of snowy walks but not really had the chance to really explore our neighbourhood.

I’m also hoping to get to know our neighbours a little bit better, tick off some of my date days from Valentine’s Day and crack on with my 30 things to do before I’m 30 list too!

Spring won’t be here until May in the middle of Canada where I am, so it’s aways off for me haha! I personally dislike DST because I prefer to have the light in the morning- if it is light when I am driving to work AND coming home, it feels like the day is longer. I lose that for about a month with DST 😓

I was super grumpy and tired when I woke up missing an hours sleep! But after a nap it was lovely to go for a walk in the spring sunshine. This is a great post to remind myself that spring is here even though it is grey and miserable again! X
